The tombs of the Paigah nobles are located on the road to Santosh Nagar colony from the mir Jumla Tank. There are many tombs of several generations of the Paigah nobles, including Asman Jah, Viqarul-Umara and Shams-ul-Umara. The tombs are magnificent structures, decorated with stucco work and represent the Asaf Jahi and Rajasthani styles.

The varieties of marble used in these tombs are worth seeing World renowned American architect Prof Harish Lalvani quoted, "The geometry found in the Paigah Tombs is unique and is not found anywhere in the world."



Situated at Patancheru, these tombs are constructed in typical Qutb Shahi style of architecture.

The tombs erected in memory of the departed kings of Golconda are magnificent monuments that have stood the test of time and the vagaries of nature. They stand a kilometer north of Golconda Fort's Banjara Darwaza. These imposing marvels of architectural excellence stand as solemn reminders of the grandeur and glory of Golconda and the kings who are buried here.




Qutub shahi tomb

The tombs form a large and close group standing on a raised plateau. These tombs and other monuments of the Qutb Shahi kings mark a unique architectural style which is a mixture quadrangular rising 9 to 15 metres above the terrace.


The St. Ann's orphanage and a school were opened under the care of a few nuns in 1859, For nearly 10 years, the institutions were maintained by teachers, when three sisters of charity came from ltaly and remained till 1871. The St. Mary's Cathedral is a huge and magnificent building with vast open space.

It was built during 1860-65, with pointed arches, windows, turrets and buttresses. It is one of the landmarks is Secunderabad and is listed for its architectural quality.


Caravan, a suburb south-east of the Golconda Fort, was planned during the Qutb Shahi times. The kings and their retinue passed through caravan while going to Hyderabad from Golconda Fort. To the right of the main road stands Toli Masjid, a truly magnificent monument of the Qutb Shahi Period. Built in 1671, in the reign of Sultan Abdullah, the masjid divided into two halls,

the outer one having five arched openings and the inner one three. Two minarets of 20 metres each, flank the edifice. The parapets on top comprise a series of miniature arches with perforated screens of different designs. The inscription in the prayer hall tells us that Musa Khan built the mosque. The musa Burj (bastion) of the Golconda Fort is also the work of Musa Khan who was the chamberlain of Abdullah Qutb Shah. The author of the "Gulzar-e-Asafia"or"royal records" writes that when this royal architect was building the Mecca Masjid, he was allowed one damdi out of every rupee spent on it. The sum of money thus collected was used by Musa Khan to construct the Toli Masjid. Hence, the royal records also called it Damdi Masjid.



This mosque is located east of Hyderabad at Uppal Kalan along the Warangal Road and it has façade of three arches. The mosque was built during the reign of Abdullah Qutb Shah (1626-1672). After a visit to Machilipatnam, Abdullah camped at Uppal on his way back to Hyderabad.
